The world got a little less funny this past Thursday when news broke that comic Greg Giraldo passed away at a New Jersey hospital. After enduring what was said to be an accidental drug overdose on Sunday, Giraldo clung to life for five days before ultimately being taken off life support.

Yes, the details of his death are tragic and rampant with rumors of depression, addiction, and even a suicide attempt, but thankfully that’s not what his fans are remembering him for. And believe us, he had a LOT of fans, especially within the celebrity community.
On hearing the news, comedian Carlos Mencia Tweeted,
“It's 90 degrees and we had a sunny day in LA. In the last 10 min it got cloudy, thunder and now it's pouring rain. Greg is in heaven now!”
Others pouring out virtual eulogies included Dane Cook, Nick Cannon, and more. It’s obvious Giraldo had a huge following, particularly for his ability to “roast” celebs and come up with uproarious insults. One of his more recent high-profile gigs was as a judge on the series Last Comic Standing.
Felipe Esparza, who won the competition, offered condolence Tweets as well.
“Thanks Greg Giraldo for believing the moment you saw me on 'Last Comic standing' .Today the world is less funny.”
Though he only lived 44 years, Greg led a pretty incredible life. Born to a Colombian father and a Spanish mother in the Bronx, he went on to earn a law degree from Harvard Law School. Then after less than a year of practicing, he gave up his career as an attorney to try his hand at standup.
He never transitioned it into a major TV or movie career, but Giraldo was a huge success on the road. Greg put out DVDs, comedy albums, and made dozens of appearances on The Howard Stern Show. Our hearts go out to his family and children.
