It wasn't the match-up we expected, or hoped for for that matter, but was an exciting match none-the-less. Rafael Nadal won the US Open trophy defeating Novak Djokovic in a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 victory and more importantly became only the seventh player to achieve a career Grand Slam!

The match, initially scheduled for Sunday (September 12) was postponed until the following day due to the weather. Those of us eager to witness history were a little disappointed but knew from the first serve that it would be worth the wait. Nadal showed signs of being a mere mortal losing the second set due to a sloppy service game – marking the first time in the entire tournament. He quickly regained his composure and roared back to claim victory winning the next two sets.
Djokovic didn't stand a chance and knew it:
"He took it away, and he never gave me a chance to go back."
We were psyched and were jumping up and down like little school girls when the sexy Spaniard won the match but he simply dropped to his knees and threw his hands in the air.
"That's more than I dreamt," Nadal said at the trophy presentation. "It's just amazing to be here in this final, just to arrive in this final. To have this trophy here in a few seconds, with my hands, is going to be unbelievable."
Rafa now has nine Grand Slam titles under his belt and becomes the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open in the same year. Next stop: the Australian Open (January 2011) and a chance to claim four titles in a row!
Roger Federer already has 16 titles but at the pace Rafa is going, he better watch out. Nadal may not think he should be mentioned in the same breath yet: "I think the talk about if I am better or worse than Roger is stupid, because the titles say he's much better than me," but with all he's accomplished at only 24 years old, we beg to differ. Time will tell and it is definitely on Rafa's side.
