Some athletes just never lose their drive and Oscar de la Hoya is a prime example. With his Golden Boy Promotions, charities, and countless appearances, he seems more active now than he was when he was in the boxing ring!
We all know that the thrill of competing doesn’t go away with age. That’s why Oscar’s channeling his energies into a new athletic focus, golf! Hitting the greens is the perfect activity for ex-jocks who still love the thrill of the game, but don’t have the stamina to keep up with their past careers.

So for last month’s American Century Golf Championship, Oscar decided to come out swinging! Competing against such notable athletes as John Elway, Tony Romo, and Michael Jordan, our “Golden Boy” was definitely ready to hold his own.
"It's all about concentration. In any sport, you need to have that mental capacity. You need to be mentally tough before you're physically tough" said de la Hoya. "The last time I was here, I had a great time but my game wasn't all that good. I'm not just here to play, I'm here to win."
Well, when the weekend was up Oscar wound up tieing for 40th place (though he did beat Charles Barkley and Troy Aikman). But don’t think that’s discouraged Oscar!
He has since dedicated an entire room in his house to putting and practicing and we know if he sets his mind to winning, he’ll do it. Watch out Tiger!
