No more rumors: “The Decision” has been made and it came straight from LeBron James' mouth: “I'm going to take my talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat.”
In a televised interview with ESPN last night (July 8), LeBron James announced his plans to join the Miami Heat. James accredited his decision to the fact that he will have the best chance to win the Championship with this team.

"I feel like it's going to give me the best opportunity to win and to win for multiple years, and not only just to win in the regular season or just to win five games in a row or three games in a row, I want to be able to win championships. And I feel like I can compete down there."
All we can say is Wow!
Diddy may have been wrong on his New York prediction but, according to a recent tweet, he was fine with James' choice:
“ok I can handle Miami!!! its my second home!!!! lets go!!!!!!”
New teammate Chris Bosh tweeted his excitement:
“Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Jimmy Fallon took a more comedic approach:
“Chris Bosh = Rose, DWade = Blanche, PRiley = Sophia and LeBron is such a Dorothy. #TheNewGoldenGirls “
Justin Bieber even offered congratulations:
“I really thought he was going to the bulls; ...congrats to the miami heat...KOBE WILL BE WAITING”
Although we're sure the decision was painful, former Cavs teammate Mo Williams was still happy for James:
“Congrats to my homie @kingjames. Love u homie. Its been great.” A few hours later when it all sinks in, Williams goes on to tweet “Well fuck, I gotta be honest. I'm sick ass a dog. I feel like my heart has been pulled out. But I'm happy for my friend. Shittttttttt“
While some celebrities were supportive and understand the sacrifices James will have to make joining Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami to win (pay-cut, shared spotlight and diminished role), Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert was not as accepting.
Shortly after James announced his plans to leave Cleveland, Gilbert posted a letter to Cavs fans on the team's website:
"You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal," Gilbert told fans in the letter. "If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our 'motivation' to previously unknown and previously never-experienced levels."
Gilbert continues on with his conspiracy theory, alleging James gave up on the Cavs during the second round playoff series against the Boston Celtics:
"He quit," Gilbert said. "Not just in Game 5, but in Games 2, 4 and 6. Watch the tape. The Boston series was unlike anything in the history of sports for a superstar."
Gilbert's harshest statement by far was that “This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown 'chosen one' sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And 'who' we would want them to grow-up to become.”
That was a low blow!
Apparently we weren't the only ones stunned by Gilbert's statements. Miami teammate Dwyane Wade shared his reaction with the Associated Press:
“I couldn't believe it. I'm speechless. It's very unfortunate and I think it makes LeBron that much better about his decision.” He goes on to say, “We knew Bron would take some backlash, I told him he's a strong man for it.”
We know that James' decision to leave is a tough pill to swallow but the NBA is a business a business of winning championships. If James feels that Miami is the place to accomplish that feat, then so be it.
Congratulations to the Miami Heat organization and best wishes to LeBron in his future endeavors!
