It’s hard to believe, but in a society filled with YouTube clips, video games, and zillions of cable channels, reading just might be making a comeback. How do we know this? Just look at the stats for Apple’s iPad (3 million units sold) and the extra hot Kindle device (Amazon’s biggest seller!).
Now that we have the power to tote hundreds of books on the go, reading is “chic” again. Latina Magazine recently released their official summer reading recommendations. Here are a few we can’t wait to get digital with:

The Firefly Letters
Margarita Engle’s book of poetry-inspired writing is actually based on historical events surrounding a Swedish activist’s journey to 1800’s Cuba.
Try To Remember
Author Iris Gomez channels a bit of her own history into this intriguing semi-autobiographical tale. It offers a harsh, yet inspiring look at growing up as a Colombian immigrant in 1970’s America.
The Madonnas Of Echo Park
Brando Skyhorse’s debut novel is already getting tons of buzz. Set in SoCal’s Mexican-heavy Echo Park district, it illustrates the highs and lows of LA’s cultural melting pot.
Beautiful Maria of My Soul
Oscar Hijuelos won a Pulitzer Prize for his legendary The Mambo Kings Play Songs Of Love. 20 years later, he revisits the feisty Maria and her take on the Cuban revolution.
The Insufferable Gaucho
If you’re in the mood for provocative short stories, you can’t go wrong with this. Legendary Chilean author Roberto Bolano may have died 7 years ago, but his mastery lives on with these translations.
