Pitbull is not one to shy away from controversy. On the set of Enrique Iglesias' video shoot for "I Like It," the Cuban rapper opened up to MTV News about the ongoing immigration issues in this country.
With residents of Fremont, Nebraska recently voting to banish illegal immigrants from jobs and rental homes, Mr. 305's views on this subject are more relevant than ever.
"You're not born to hate, you're raised to hate... To me, it's disappointing. It shows we still have a lot of work out there to do, but on the flip side of things, look at it in a positive way. [in Spanish] For all the Latinos listening to me, it's a sign that Latinos are rising in incredible numbers and the power of our collective voice is increasing... What is shows is that our culture is intimidating. I don't know why, but we're growing and we're becoming more powerful... It's all a part of becoming a powerful culture within the United States of America and worldwide."
Putting his money where his mouth is, Pitbull recently canceled his tour dates in Arizona to support Zack de la Rocha's "The Sound Strike" campaign, a creative boycott urging the world's musical movers and shakers to stand up and fight against Arizona's SB 1070.
Mr. 305 continues to advocate for immigration reform, speaking candidly via his Twitter:
"Artists Boycott of Arizona, A call to artists and fans of music to stop SB 1070!! CLICK HERE TO JOIN THE MOVEMENT: http://bit.ly/chG1v5"
