For those who thought last week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo was strictly for gamers, techies, Warcraft lovers, and guys living in their mom’s basements, think again! The biggest annual event in video games brought out industry heavy hitters, A-list celebs, and (most importantly) tons of insane parties!

Did somebody say recession? Not here! Take Activision for example. As a way to promote (and add some “street cred”) to their latest DJ Hero release, they actually rented out the LA Staples Center and packed it with private performances by Eminem, Rihanna, Usher, and more!
Imagine seeing Chris Cornell wail on “Black Hole Sun” against a backdrop for the new Call Of Duty: Black Ops game, or being able to get a free live rendition of tracks like “Won’t Back Down” from Em’s upcoming Recovery release. We loved catching his voice in that recent Activision commercial!
All this for video games? You better believe it — and that’s only the beginning. How about Microsoft renting out actual Cirque du Soliel performers to stir up guests about its new Xbox Kinect?

This isn’t just a few juggler clowns. We’re talking a full-blown elephant in the room! To keep in the spirit of things, all attendees (which included at least one of Michael Jackson’s kids) were required to wear white satin ponchos at all times!
Even young starlets like Rachel Bilson joined the action, hosting a star-studded party for the game Homefront at LA’s Standard Hotel. We’re still not sure what the cute girl from “The OC” has to do with a 1st person shooter about enemies attacking America, but she definitely makes good eye candy for the papz.
So what were the big revelations of this ultra-expensive event? Nintendo’s announcement of the 3D DS portable (take THAT Avatar!), the neon brilliance of the Tron exhibit, and the return of the old school James Bond shooter Goldeneye!
It sure seemed like a lot of excess and hype, but with over 45,000 influential peeps in attendance, you can bet E3 (and its after-parties) left a lasting impression.
