A Dangerous Love Affair: Bollywood Film 'Kites'

We’ve all heard this adage: “Love prevails, love is blind.” This time around, we’re shown that both exist — hand-in-hand — through a dangerous love affair in Bollywood film, "Kites."

"Kites" is an intoxicating mix of Hollywood romance with classic Bollywood dance scenes. The film is almost entirely in English and Spanish (with subtitles) and was filmed in different parts of the United States and Mexico. Kites will be followed by a reworked English language version, entitled "Kites: The Remix."

"Kites" hits theaters in India today and reaches us on May 28! We've got photos and plot details, after the jump!

A Rakesh Roshan production directed by Anurag Basu, "Kites" tells the story of a prohibited love. Similar to Oscar winning "Slumdog Millionaire", a forbidden romance grows between J (played by producer’s brother, Hrithik Roshan) and Natasha (played by Uruguayan actress Barbara Mori).

J is an orphan that keeps up a living as a Salsa instructor in Las Vegas and weds “illegals” for extra cash. In a bittersweet move, he falls in love after wedding Natasha, an immigrant from Mexican who will go to any extreme to earn a dollar for her family back at home.

Parting ways after their quick Vegas wedding, both of their worlds collide when J plays with the heart of Gina (played by Kangna) who is the sister of, coincidentally, Natasha’s fiancé, Tony (played by Nick Brown).

J and Barbara run away together to escape the stranglehold of the family's power - they own the state’s most prestigious casino.

Wanted for ransom, both fight to survive through police chases, shootings, and bank robberies — just to stay together.
