What do all of these stars have in common?
They all supported the Latino Commisson on AIDS during the 14th Annual Cielo Latino Gala on Tuesday night at Cipriani Wall Street in NYC. The organization Cielo Latino continues to be the largest Annual National fundraiser for the Latino community against HIV. It's no coincidence that the non-profit exists since the fastest growing ethnic group in the U.S., Latinos constitute 14% of the U.S. population but account for over 20% of the AIDS cases.
This year's gala garnered the support of the likes of Wilmer Valderrama, Lupe Ontiveros, Dayana Mendoza, Rosie Perez, Cucu Diamantes, Carmen Dominicci, and our very own Carlos Santos. Without a doubt we were there to catch all the acción and chat it up with Wilmer himself! Find out what he exclusively told MTV Tr3s and more gala gossip after the jump!
We caught up with Wilmer (aka) Fez to find out what supporting Cielo Latino means to him:
It's really an honor. Rosie Perez and Dayana Mendoza are great friends of mine. It's very special to come together to not only celebrate our Latin culture, but also educate the public about the importance of HIV awareness.... And to tell our youth, to be strong. To help each other and educate each other. We are all in this struggle together.
Wilmer Valderrama co-hosted the event alongside fellow Venezuelan Miss Universe, Dayana Mendoza. Besides looking like prom king and queen, the two fed off each other beautifully as emcees. When she stumbled over certain words in English, Wilmer looked out by saying people let him mispronounce words in Spanish for years. Claro, bilingual exchanges are the best kind...
La noche took a rhythmic turn after Calle 13's Residente was named International Ambassador for the Latino Commission of AIDS 2009. While he wasn't able to be there that night, he sent his sister to accept on his behalf. Rosie Perez also presented the "Innovator Award" in a stunning red dress, while funny guy Carlos Santos also took the stage to present the "Voz De Compromiso Award" to Pedro Zamora. His sister, Mily Zamora took the stage to accept the award on his behalf and delivered a proactive speech in Spanish.
Our fave moment: Mily reminded everyone that the fight is not over.
