As we saw last night on Entertainment as a Second Language...

Makano is flexing the romantic style his way. His Panamanian counterpart Flex may have put the fresh musical estilo on the map, but the "Te Amo" star is making sure it stays on the charts. Known for creating a unique sound mixed with romantic ballads and catchy reggaeton beats, Makano continues to remain on the Billboard Latin Pop Airplay charts thanks to his very-well-received debut album. We spoke exclusively to the 26-year-old singer after his killer performance at last night's E.S.L. about his love for one special lady. Check it all out right after el click!
Are you surprised by all of the success "Te Amo" has received?
I am just very happy about it all. We have worked really hard to get it up to the level it's at today. Especially in Panama and South America. I want to thank all of the fans that call up their radio stations and request the song everyday. They have made all of this possible.
Why are most of your songs about infidelity or heartbreak? Is it a personal thing?
Bueno, it is what people live day to day. It's the reality of life. People love and people get hurt. Even though people don't want to hear about the part when things go bad, it's all a part of love. So, it's always a way to release all of those feelings.
What artists are you fishing to collaborate with right now?
I don't dare say any names [Laughs]. I am willing to work with whoever comes to the table. I love all music. I really do. I feel like I can't reject an opportunity like that.
What do you say to people that compare you to Flex?
What can I say? I have my own style. Romantic style is a genre now and there are a bunch of singers that contribute to it. We both (Flex and I) come from the same crib, which is Panama and we both launched our careers around the same time so the important thing is that people around the world recognize our music and respect it for what it is.
You recently completed your tour across Latin America. Do you have a favorite moment?
It was very unforgettable. I got to experience a bunch of new countries like Paraguay, Argentina, and so many places I never even dreamed of being able to visit. The entire trip was just very special.
How are you celebrating Mother's Day?
I wish I could travel to Panama. Mi mama linda has been so supportive and has helped me get to where I am today. She was there for good and bad. She has taught me a lot about perseverance. Tu sabe. She has taught me to keep my head up and keep working hard for my dream.
