Time to get with the program! The GYT campaign isn't going anywhere...

The STD awareness campaign has even garnered major attention and support in Hollywood, including A-list celeb endorsements by Perez Hilton, Soulja Boy, and JoAnna Garcia. The "Privileged" star has taken the streets to raise attention on the importance of getting tested so we decided to get the inside scoop on the Latina's journey. Check out what the Cuban-Spanish Planned Parenthood Federation of America Ambassador had to say about sexual health, HIV and other important issues like her fave pop picks right below!
Why was it important for you as a Latina to be a part of the GYT campaign?
Being a Latina really had nothing to do with my desire to be a part of the GYT campaign. My admiration and affiliation with Planned Parenthood and the importance of raising awareness about STD's and sexual health for young people was my driving force.
What advice do you have for our youth regarding talking about sex and sexual health?
I think it's really important for adults and our youth to face the facts. Sex is happening. It's isn't something that should be taboo to talk about. In my opinion we need to promote responsible sex...both physically AND emotionally. Arm our youth with the facts. And above all teach them to respect themselves and their bodies before anything else!
Have you or anyone you know been affected by HIV or AIDS?
I had the honor of posing on the cover of TV Guide with Magic Johnson when he announced he was HIV Positive. I remember what a controversial moment it was. There was such a lack of awareness and so much fear surrounding the event. I'm the daughter of a physician...I remember having a conversation with my father about HIV, ways it can be contracted, and the importance of supporting Mr. Johnson in his brave announcement. Right then I learned how crucial it was to do whatever I could to speak out and educate the public about HIV/AIDs and other reproductive and sexual health issues.
So now you are starring on the hit show "Privileged," how has that experience been?
"Privileged' means the world to me. Never have I felt so connected to a character and everything she stands for. There are so few young, strong, female characters on television and with the help of Rina Mimoun (creator, EP of 'Privileged') I think we have created a character that young women can relate to, respect, and look up to.
What can we look forward to from Megan as the series continues?
You can always count on Megan to be honest and make mistakes. But she navigates through life with a very strong moral compass that will somehow always balance things out. And of course you can always be sure she will have yummy boys to complicate things...we are a TV show for goodness sakes!
Who has more fun: blonds or red heads?
Ha! I have to say my life has been pretty fun both ways! I was terrified to become a redhead, but when I did I was surprised at how much I love it. I will probably get back to blond at some point just for fun...but for now this red feels just right!!!
Who did you identify with in TV when you were growing up?
If I said the Golden Girls would you think I was crazy??? Ha! But in all honesty, if you could make me laugh I adored you. The Cosby Show, Growing Pains, and Wonder Years were my favorites. I also idolize Mary Tyler Moore.
Entertainment rundown: fave artist, songs, TV shows, designer, movie?
Right now I'm into everything country music has got out there. I, of course, love Reba. Taylor Swift, the precious Julianne Hough, and I melt at the sight of Geroge Straight. I also ADORE the new artist Adele...her voice is amazing. I have been working so much that I haven't gotten to watch too much TV...but you can almost always find HGTV on in the house if you were to come over.
What is your fave summer style? Any fave summer vacation spots?
I love everything about the ocean. My family has a beach house in Florida and year-round our family gathers there for everything. Pretty much good food, good drink, and good company...I'm there!
What else are you working on?
I just completed two pilots. One for Fox called 'Cophouse.' Brett Ratner directed and it was probably one of the funnest casts I have ever worked with. And another untitled project for NBC. But don't worry...'Privileged' is where my heart is at...both were just guest starring roles!
