Pedro's familia are just as real as the Cubano's RW San Fran momentos...
We've heard all the behind-the-scenes chisme from celebs and actors, but what about the person that was with Pedro through every step of his illness? We are shedding light to today's Pedro premiere by chatting it up with his hermana, Mily Zamora. MTV Tr3s caught up with his sister at the movie screening held at Florida International University to get her reaction to the movie and share intimate memories of Pedro.
Mily sent this note of thanks to MTV Tr3s for their efforts:
Queria aprovechar la oportunidad para darte las gracias por hacia posible algo tan extraordinario, todo quedo fantastico, te pido disculpa por tanto llorar pero es que las emociones, el sentimiento llenan nuestras mentes del recuerdo y el deseo de nuestro PEDRO. Fueron momentos que realmente los vivimos y nunca lo podremos olvidar...
Cariños y muchas gracias,
Mily Zamora y Familia
Check out what else she had to say about continuing Pedro's legacy and what she loved about the MTV television movie after the jump...
It’s been almost 15 years since Pedro’s passing. Are you surprised by how fondly people still remember him?
I am so surprised! When I went to Toronto, it was amazing. I was surprised by how many people came up to me and remembered him. They talked to me about him as if it were like yesterday. That made me so happy, even though it is sad what happened to him. They remember him and I believe that it is not in vain that he passed away, that he gave all his talent and his time, that he showed his sickness on TV and now in a movie was all for one reason: to help others.
So what do you hope the release of Pedro the movie will accomplish?
After 14 years, I think that this is a new opportunity for people to think twice before having unprotected sex. Love, romance, all those things are good. But you know [when it comes to having sex], you have to be responsible. It’s about taking responsibility for your actions. It’s an opportunity to create a rebirth of Pedro’s memory. In the middle of all of our sadness in the family, there is a sense of peace in that pain because we believe that we are helping a cause to stop this [epidemic.] The world can change once we all learn more responsibility.
Do you think Pedro’s legacy continues to live on?
I think now, better than ever. After the release of the movie I think it will be a new, exciting time. It doesn’t bother me, I do it with love and I do it for free [talking about Pedro]. If I have to go out and share Pedro’s life to continue his legacy, I’ll do it. I’ll do whatever it takes.

What’s one thing about Pedro we might not know from watching the movie that you can share with us?
There is nothing I can tell you, because there is nothing that he hid. It’s all there. He wanted everyone to know everything about his life and his experience. He wrote a lot of things down because his idea was to write a book about his life.
What was you favorite part of the movie?
My favorite part of the movie was anywhere where he was laughing [smiles]. Because that is the thing I miss most about him. Don’t think I’m crazy but sometimes when I am home alone, listening to music or something, I still hear it. Besides that, my favorite aspect of the movie was that it reminded me of his strength. He was gay pero he was a man, you understand? People assume that because you are gay you are not manly - they are confused, because that is not the case.
Pedro airs on MTV Tr3s TONIGHT at 8PM. Gather your familia and be prepared to enter Pedro's mundo.
