Forget about New Year's resolutions! Flex is all about perfecting his hustle all year around. The Latin Grammy-winner conquered 2008 with ease, and now he is prepared to tackle the following year with full-force. Flex recently spoke to us about his new album, "La Evolución Romantic Style," and his latest video for the new single "Dime Si Te Vas Con El." Grab all of the details before it hits the airwaves right below!
You have been hard at work! We hear you have sealed your latest track, "Dime Si Te Vas Con El." Will this track feature a new romantic style?
The song is a mix of bayanato, Panamanian folklore, and a romantic style of Spanish reggae. What you get is a mix of modern Panamanian music, but also adds a romantic touch that is universal. I put a lot of fuerza into this track and I am satisfied with the tropical sound I was left with.
How has your musical estilo evolved since dropping your hit single, "Te Quiero"?
The new album "La Evolución Romantic Style" is a complete musical evolution. "Te Quiero" put me on the map, but the [new production] includes a variety of sounds that really makes it different. It has matured. The important thing is to stay true to all those situations from everyday life. People who fall in love, explore, and let themselves go in that feeling of love...that is where this all comes from. I just transform it into different melodies, motions, and beats. Each song on this album is different from the other and has its own style.
Is it safe to say that you have experienced all stages of romantic style in real life?
Claro, I think we can all identify. Everyone lives romance and love in different forms. I try and represent all of the elements in my music. From falling for your first love, suffering the break-up, feeling all the sadness; those are all stages that come with life.
Your collaboration with Belinda for "Te Quiero" was an instant hit. Are you willing to form another remix with her for this upcoming album?
Yes, definitely. First we have to coordinate new alternatives with the record label, and if the possibility is there then I will take it. I am always exploring different artists to work with. For example, the first single "Dime Si Te Vas Con El" is actually a duet with a Panamanian artist, Mr. Saiko. He really helps bring a new sound to the table.
You recently wrapped-up the video for "Dime Si Te Vas Con El." What is the creative concept for the video?
The video is actually really cool. It centers around a sugarcane worker who falls in love with a chica who ends up cheating on him with another man. It is a very controversial video, but the song also has a strong context to it. I hope my fans enjoy it because it will definitely make them laugh!
Does this mean you are up in the fields cutting caña too?
Yes! Let's just say I got really into character. [Laughs]
