MTV Tr3s’ sister station Vh1 Soul presented "Q-Tip’s Soul Stage" last night in NYC, and we are recapping our V.I.P. access just for you!

Q ignited the crowd with hits from his solo album, "Amplified," including “Vivrant Thing” and “Breathe & Stop.” He then went into a round of A Tribe Called Quest classics, jokingly stating that the only way you might not have heard these hits is if you’d been on valium for the last 20 years. “Electric Relaxation”, “Award Tour”, and crowd pleaser “Bonita Applebum” had fans reciting lyrics better than the MC. It wasn’t until, “Check the Rhime,” that Q-Tip let a female fan take the mic and OWN the lines from their second album, "The Low End Theory."
The real reason for last night’s gathering was to sample a few new singles off of Q-Tip's new LP, "The Renaissance." The premiere track, “Move” was an upbeat joint similar to the pop classics the emcee was criticized for on his first solo venture, while “Fight” reminded fans of why Q-Tip will forever be synonymous with A Tribe Called Quest.
Slated to release on election day, "The Renaissance" is not only a sign of Q-Tip’s rebirth as an artist, but a track on the album, “Shaka”, features an excerpt from one of Presidential candidate Barack Obama’s campaign speeches. Q-Tip has also recently stated that he plans on forming a new hip-hop group with Chi-City MC, Common, called “The Standard,” but confirmation wasn’t available as of press time.
We hope this V.I.P access was as good for you as it was for us!
