The trailblazing "Cicatrix" foursome plan on splitting open a musical revolution with UK band Autovaughn and Indie group Junior Revolution, which is showing love to Chicago, New York, and Florida among others ciudades. Want to uncover Monte Negro's thoughts on politics and more? Grab our exclusive charla with lead singer Kinski Gallo Rodriguez right below the hood!
We know your performances offer tons of energy, but has a fan ever taken it too far?
Yeah, well being taken by surprise is definitely a turn-off. We were in Fresno, California and we were about to perform a cumbia song and then all of a sudden a cat-fight broke out. They jumped on-stage, grabbed my arm, and I fell on them. It was very random. I was kind of bummed because we just finished playing "Give Me Love."
I guess they really felt the music!
I told them 'guys you are kind of defeating the whole purpose of our music.' It's kind of unfortunate, but then they chilled out afterwards. There was also another time when this guy knocked through security and came up on stage. It was funny because he was this tiny little guy! I just told him to chill out. It really takes a special kind of fan to do all that.
Does the band ever get into fights with each other?
No not really. Nothing is perfect, but we always have discussions about things. The whole purpose of this is just to have fun, perform, and dance. We offer a feeling of relief in our music. That's what it's about you know? Our music is energetic without any negativity.
What are your thoughts on the Presidential Election?
I don't want to seem bipartisan or anything. I have my political preferences and you can definitely hear that in our music. It makes me happy to know that Latinos are getting involved in politics because it is affecting our lives. I will say, whether you are Republican or Democratic, it is important to be involved. My thoughts are that this country needs a change. There is a lot of sh*t going on that is really really wrong. I have always opposed the war, but not only that...now you are seeing the repression too. It is a very complex issue, but greed is behind it all.
Continued:
Let's face it, immigration is also a huge issue. We need someone in office that isn't just going to say 'Let's f*cking smoke them all!' That is not a solution, and war is never a solution. Something needs to be worked out for Latin America and Mexico. We can't just blame the people. There needs to be some sort of diplomacy in all of this.
Sounds like he has the passion and the heart of a true revolutionary! Be sure to check out the Monte Negro tour dates and keep it locked for more news to come!
