Exclusive Entrevista: Kinky

Our heads are still pulsating from the VMA madness, but our souls are begging for more Kinky action...

Which is why the addictive band from Monterrey and Nuevo Leon, Mexico are transcending all borders and rocking out at our official "Tr3spass" tour! You know our fiestas are never complete without un poco of Kinky rhythms, and luckily we got a chance to talk with the group about their freakiest concert moments and their new album “Barracuda” dropping on Sept 30th. How would you describe your "rocktronica en español" style to a pack of gringos?

We think of our music as a Low End International groove reinforced with a little dirt from south of the border. Something that you can sweat and dance with a rockin' attitude.

Is there a kinky story behind your band name?

There are a few. But we think it has something to do with freedom. Freedom to choose a name, freedom to mess around with any musical style that we found interesting, freedom to behave any way you like.

Considering that Mexican Independence Day is on the 16th, how do you plan on celebrating the historic day? What are you most prideful about in regards to your heritage?

Hopefully eating real Independent Mexican food and wearing Independently made banderas as skirts, and actually drinking the “banderitas”(the real way Mexicans drink good tequila). I like that we can really laugh about ourselves…and about you if you watch your back.

What can fans expect from your new album “Barracuda” dropping on Sept 30th?

They can expect a lot of new tunes that we are really excited to play live. These are songs that already have an attitude that is going to multiply each time we play them. So, we advise you to just play it loud!!!

Your promotional tour kicks off on Sept 12th, what kind of Kinky show-stopping moments do you have planned?

Well, that’s a surprise. But hopefully there will be a lot of moments where you don’t want the show to stop. We are expecting that one or two members from the audience get naked on stage every now and then...

Speaking of performances, what has been your wildest concert moment?

One of them was in a festival in Mexico City, the ground was shaking because of the 60,000 heads jumping. Suddenly a huge fire started in the crowd and helicopters where flying around to check it out. It couldn’t get wilder than that.

MTV was able to slip in a reporter in your "Hasta Quemarnos" video, what unexpected mayhem can fans expect from your next video for “Avion”?

We don’t know yet. Unexpected is the secret ingredient.

Who do you think deserves to win the “Best Rock Video” and “Best New Artist” VMA?

Best Video: ‘House of Cards’ Radiohead.
Best New Artist: Hercules and The Love Affair.
