When we started reporting on Daddy Yankee's support of GOP nominee John McCain, we heard your reactions loud and clear:
I dont know how much daddy yankee was paid for this where is my man Tego Calderon can you put this kid in place please -- rushay, in response to post "Daddy Yankee: McCain Is A Fighter for the Hispanic Community"
If I could speak to DY I would tell him that this can be the worst decision of your career. McCain is going to receive DYs Support and lose the election. DY MIGHT AS WELL SAY GEORGE W. BUSH IS DOING GOOD FOR Puerto Rico -- Daddy Obama, in response to post "Is Daddy Yankee Voting McCain for President?"
what???? he better not vote for mccain that is whack! -- Jenni, in response to post "Is Daddy Yankee Voting McCain for President?"
Fans of El Rey del Reggaeton aren't the only ones speaking out. One of biggest (no pun intended) advocates for change in the Hispanic community, Fat Joe, had biting words to say about his GOP-huggin' hermano to MTV News:
Put this in the MTV News headline: 'Fat Joe Says Daddy Yankee Is a Sellout.' Just like that!
The reason why I called him a sellout is because I feel he did that for a [publicity] look, rather than the issues that are affecting his people that look up to him. How could you want John McCain in office when George Bush and the Republicans already have half a million people losing their homes in foreclosure?
We're fighting an unjust war. It's the Latinos and black kids up in the frontlines, fighting that war... I feel real disgusted that Daddy Yankee would do that. Either he did that for a look, or he's just not educated on politics.
Throwing more controversy into the ring, Fat Joe offered to play the heavyweight in a political debate with DY:
If he believes John McCain is the better candidate for the Latinos, we could sit down. Even if he wants to get into a debate, we can debate anywhere — New York, Puerto Rico.
Fat Joe arrived at the DNC on Day 3, just in time for a speech from former President Bill Clinton. In addition to singing the praises of political power duo Bill & Hill, and Barack Obama, Fat Joe urged Americans to do the right thing and VOTE:
Fat Joe says it's not an option to vote. We have to vote and change this country around. Everybody has to get out there and register. I'm not asking, I'm telling you to go vote. I'm forcing you. [MTV News]
Not like it's a threat or anything, but you better do what Fat Joe says. Do you really want to go up against him? He's like three hundred libras of pure gangsta.
First one to spot the Daddy Yankee-Fat Joe guerra wins! We look seeing these two Latino rappers spit fierce political poetry.
