At first glance Karina Pasian may appear as a rookie songstress, but this 17-year-old surpasses her high school years with her powerhouse vocals and poetically empowering lyrics. The Dominicana has been creeping into the spotlight with her debut album "First Love," but we are fueling the Karina fever even more by featuring her as this month's Descubre and Download artist. We had a chance to kick-back with the New York City native about her real first love and behind-the-scenes chisme right under the hood!
What was it like filming your latest music video "Can't Find The Words"?
It was really great because I was able to film it in New York City. The concept behind the video was all about performing and giving it my all. Even though the song is about a boy, it is not really focused on that in the video. It's just me thinking and trying to find myself in the song.
Did you experience any mishaps while filming?
I am goofy so we were just playing a lot of games off-stage because a lot of my friends were there during the shoot. So, we played basketball and pretty much had fun with it all.
Why is your album titled "First Love"?
A lot of people will assume that it is a boy or something, but the title really means that my 'first love' is music.
We hear both of your parents are teachers, what is the greatest lesson they have taught you?
I think the greatest lesson they have taught me is that education is important. When I am on the road I get tutored so I value my studies a lot.
What is the most exciting thing about recently turning 17?
I think it's an exciting time because I am in that in between stage. I'm not yet 18, and I'm still in my teenage years...so I get to enjoy my youth for now.
What is the best part about being Dominican?
Definitely getting to go to the island and be around family. I think Dominican people are so funny! I love the way they talk and express themselves. Oh...and the food! My grandmother can cook some great food!
Hungry for more Karina? Be sure to check her out on Mi TRL tomorrow at 4pm and 9pm!
