When we heard that the group Allison (nombre de chica, pero son hombres) was on MTV news talking about the latest rage in American-inspired music from Mexico, we were over it like white on arroz. It's like pop, but in Spanish.  Allison is becoming the poster child for the genre labeled "Mexipunk". Check out what they told MTV News about their stateside fan base and having multilingual fans:

With his candid story telling, portrayal of urban life in America, and poetic skill Nas has made a name for himself in hip hop. Yesterday the rapper took his fame to the political streets, speaking out against Fox News and its treatment of presidential candidate Barack Obama on air.

Que Viva La Raza de Las Momias Latinas!

Imagínate: Brendan Fraser fights a pack of Latin mummies in the far reaches of 16th century Mesoamerica instead of rallying against zombies of the far East. What if The Mummy movie legends were about Peruvian Incas or Mexican Aztecs? It would make those action flicks hit a little closer to home, no? The Mummy 3 director Rob Cohen recently spoke about his plans for a possible fourth Mummy movie:

We now have it clear that the "Mummy" franchise can travel. If we want to go to Mexico or we want to go to Peru, we can because there's a cultural truth there of the mummies and these beautiful cultures.

Cohen has expressed interest in filming the franchise in Peru, but it was exclusively to MTV News that he divulged the possibility of filming the fourth Mummy in Mexico:

The Aztec culture had a lot of mummies. I think that somehow that might make the basis of a good story.

The director also mentioned if he could cast anyone in a Latino Mummy movie, who his dream cast would include:

I think Javier Bardem would be a person I would try to involve.

While we wait for our South of the border Mummy action, the third installment of the series The Mummy: The Doom of the Dragon Emperor hits theaters August 1st and it should be a fun ride.
