It's a well known fact that rock is far from dead south of the border, despite what Latin charts in gringolandia say, and these days Cobra Starship is tearing the alternative rock scene up! Their fearless leader, frontman Gabe Saporta, is not only super hot, but didya know he was also Latino? That's right, before making waves with Snakes on a Plane, this talented uruguayo grew up dancing "La Bamba" to Los Lobos. Of course, Latinos are always a part of hot music trends, and with Cobra Starship's new Spanish version of "Guilty Pleasure," it's no wonder that they've become much more than just un placer culpable! Check them out all week long as MTV Tr3s Artist of the Week.
With Cobra Starship currently headlining the Warped Tour, MTV Tr3s caught up with the band in New Mexico and got a behind-the-scenes look at what the guys do in their free time (slip n' slide and Soulja Boy?), what it means to be a Latino in the world of rock music ("Jim Morrison? Quién es el?"), and what lengths some fans went through to get a ticket to the show (there's an inventive way of getting across the border!). Miralo aquí:
